The single biggest planning lesson: prepare the site in parallel with the factory build. If the base, power, gas, and ductwork are ready when the lorry arrives, the unit can be connected and started almost immediately.
Phase 1 — Manufacturing lead time
This is usually the largest slice of the calendar and it happens off your site. The factory builds, wires, and pre-commissions the unit and runs a factory acceptance test. Lead time depends on the current order queue, the chosen size and chamber configuration, and options such as energy-recovery modules or a hot bypass. Because the unit is standardised at defined airflow sizes, this phase is more predictable than a bespoke field build — but it should be confirmed with the supplier at order, as it dominates the schedule.
Phase 2 — Site preparation (run it in parallel)
The best way to shorten a plug-and-play project is to do site preparation while the unit is being built, not after it arrives. This phase rarely sits on the critical path if planned early.
- Foundation or base sized for the unit’s footprint and weight.

- Ductwork routing from the process to the unit, and the stack.

Phase 3 — Delivery and positioning
The unit arrives by lorry, often with heating elements or the fan transported separately for larger models and assembled beside the system on arrival. Offload and positioning is a crane operation measured in hours to a day, provided access and the lift plan are ready. Good logistics planning here prevents the most common avoidable delay: a unit that cannot be manoeuvred into place.
Phase 4 — Connection and commissioning
This is the plug-and-play payoff. With the unit pre-wired and pre-commissioned at the factory, on-site work is connection and verification rather than construction.
- Connect utilities (power, gas or electric heating) and ductwork/stack.
- Assemble the fan and any separately shipped modules next to the unit.
- Run functional checks — valve sequencing, burner or heater, controls, safety interlocks.
- Start up and confirm exhaust-air cleaning against the design conditions.
